OH! WHAT A LOVELY WAR

I'd forgotten just how brilliant the film, Oh! What a Lovely War, is.

Every time I watch it I see some new detail I hadn't seen before.

Even though Gielgud plays a minor part his acting is powerful and darkly comical. Those few seconds when he creeps around behind the Austrian Emperor having just given him a declaration of war to sign is brilliant.

And there is a lot of truth shown about how the war started; England, as the most powerful empire, did not try to stop it.

Why?

Because England engineered it!

King Edward VII formed the alliances before the war that would, under the correct circumstances, encircle Germany. Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in a Freemasonic plot, and Ferdinand knew he Freemasons were going to assassinate him. King George V told Germany that Great Britain would not become involved in a war on the continent. This provoked Germany to mobilise. So Russia mobilised. And the mbilisations increased until Germany invaded Belgium. Then King George V changed his mind and told Sir Edward Grey to get Great Britain into the war.

Perfide Albion!
