MANCHESTER ON CHRISTMAS EVE

Home for Christmas, I was looking forward to a trip to Manchester City Centre, where I hadn't been for well over 4 years.

Manchester is changing fast.

As the train was pulling into the city centre you can easily see the number of cranes and towers being built.

Manchester will soon be a large international city with skycrapers being built all over the city centre for business and accommodation.

But today, on Christmas Eve, I noticed:
1. the number of homeless and beggars was truly sickening, every 20 to 30m, on both sides of the street, and quilts/sleeping bags in every major doorway;
2. besides a 2-piece with a tacky synth outside the Arndale, the only music was not British, i.e. no choirs singing carols.

Walking through the Arndale:
1. 3 young asians were smoking a massive joint in public;
2. 3 young white boys were being chased for shoplifting.

And Christmas seemed all about profit.
