Towards the end of, and after, WW2 many high-ranking Nazis managed to escape to South America, primarily Argentina. There they were protected by the US and UK intels to be used in the fight against Soviet Russia. Some were even flown to the USA to work on scientific and propaganda projects.
But some didn't.
August Eigruber was one of 'em.
A local boy, Eigruber eventually became the Chief SS officer for the area around Linz, Austria, and was described as The King of Upper Austria and a totally loyal and dedicated Nazi. He was instrumental in the development and exploitation of the notorious Mauthausen/Gusen complex near Linz where Polish intelligentsia and Soviet PoWs were worked to death.
At the Dachau trials, which focused explicitly on the crimes commited at Mauthausen/Gusen, Eigruber confessed to managing a small gas chamber at Mauthausen/Gusen, and leasing nearby Hartheim Castle, to kill prisoners.
He was hanged at Landsberg Prison, and his last words with that noose tightening around his neck were, "Heil Hitler".
But who was the more evil : Eigruber? Or General Rawlinson of the British Army who decided to kill 500,000 at The Battle of The Somme for no territorial gain? Or King George V who tricked Russia and Germany into mobilising for WW1 by faking neutrality but then ordered Sir Edward Grey to Great Britain into the war?
I'm not defending the Nazis. Not one bit. My grandfathers landed on the beaches of Normandy in June 1944 and I'm proud of them.
But come on.
Engineering and kicking off WW1?
The Somme?
The Nazis were evil. In the end, pure evil.
But it was the British royal family and their minions who are responsible for WW1, The Somme, etc.
