Looks like they're pulling a Clinton on Biden.
Four years ago the FBI torpedoed Clinton will allegations that thousands of emails of Cinton looked suspicious. The FBI Chief publicly announced an investigation into this, when he didn't need to do so. This announcement led to Clinton losing about 5% in the polls immediately. Then with just a day or 2 before the election day, it was announced that there was nothing suspicious about those emails. But it was too late for Clinton: she regained about 1% in the polls but it was not enough.
In the last few days the media has been pushing a mixed story about the Bidens: corrupt business deals with China; rape; child porn.
