Er, no he didn't. It was Russia, who sacrificed nearly 30 million to repel the invading Nazis. Great Britain played a minor role, mainly encouraging and starting the war. A faction in Great Britain supported the Nazis and allowed Hitler to build up a war machine which went well beyond the limits laid out by the Treaty of Versailles but which was also capable of prosecuting a second world war. And it was Churchill who denied intelligence to the USA on the loacation and target of the Japanese navy in the first week of December 1941 which allowed the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour and dragged the USA into the war.
