But doesn't he know that we have been for decades?
The CIA and MI6 ran a coup in Iran in 1953 to overthrow the democratically elected Muhammad Mossadeq, who a few years ago was voted Iranian of the Century (see here). It was called Operation Ajax, and installed a vicious Shah as a puppet.
No such coup attempt has been made by the CIA or MI6 in Saudi Arabia. Why? Because Saudi Arabia is one of 'the good guys'.
And the inside job 9/11 was executed to overthrow seven governments in five years, as revealed to General Wesley Clark. Those seven nations were Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan, Somalia and...IRAN!!
But guess who supplied the patsies for 9/11? Yaarrp. Saudi Arabia!
And guess who has unleashed the worst international cutthroat Jihadis onto Syria? Yaarrp. Saudi Arabia!
Given the long-standing intelligence, trade and defence ties that exist between Britain and the Saudis, the answer should be self-evident. There will always be deep disagreement between London and Riyadh on issues like human rights, which is inevitable given the Saudis’ strict adherence to the principles of Sharia law.
But when it comes to defending Britain’s national interests, both at home and abroad, the Saudis, unlike Tehran, have time and again proved themselves to be reliable and effective allies.
...Seeking to have improved relations with Iran might constitute good diplomacy. But when it comes to defending our interests, sticking with tried and tested allies like Saudi Arabia makes far better sense.
