He was apparently working with a prominent Iranian human rights activist to write an article calling for the people of Saudi Arabia and Iran to unite and stop interfering in each other's affairs.
Middle East Eye revealed that slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was writing an articling in which he appealed to Saudi Arabia and Iran to stop interfering in each other’s affairs and to reconcile their differences before he was killed.
The website explained that in early 2018, Khashoggi was working on an opinion article in collaboration with a prominent Iranian human rights activist in which he called on Saudi and Iranian civil society organisations to be “the voices of reason and moderation” even if their governments’ behaviour risked an open conflict.
“Our governments are stuck digging in their heels in a dangerous staring contest that may soon erupt into something worse,” Khashoggi wrote.
“It is up to our people to be the voices of reason and moderation – something both our peoples take pride in… Civil society should spearhead this effort at mutual understanding among our peoples,” he added.
Khashoggi was brutally murdered in October 2018 by a Saudi hit squad inside the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul.
