The TTS Rotten Film of the Day is...
Gods and Generals.
Pfffooh! What a stinker!
The subject matter is the first few years of the American Civil War, focusing on General Stonewall Jackson, and mainly the utterly futile and criminal battle for Fredericksburg, during which Union soldiers were ordered to march uphill over open ground to try to take a wall at the top of a hill, Marye's Heights. But what I cannot understand is why General Lee, who saw this utter futility of sending troops to their certain doom, repeated the same mistake, but in a much larger way, at Gettysburg!
But the script is bad, the acting wooden, the sentiment pro-Confederacy, all the slaves are smiling and hugging and kissing their masters and joining to fight for the cause of the Confederacy, the soundtrack is poor, and there is even a cameo for Ted Turner. The sickest scene is on a Christmas Day when the top brass of the Confederacy sing next to an opulent Christmas Tree.
