Its bleeding obvious what's happened and is happening.
1. With impeccable timing and with the consent of NATO and Cheney, Georgia, the NATO wannabe, has laid waste to the capital of South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, killing over a thousand civilians and several Russians.
2. In response, and with some justification, Russia has sent in its military to repel the Georgians.
3. as always, the media portrays Russia as the aggressor.
4. Saakashvili cries foul, and begs for America to support him against such barbaric aggression.
5. America, the EU and NATO use the bloodshed to frame Russia.
As I understand it, the majority of South Ossetians have been given Russian passports, and support strong links with Russia. So if it turns out that the capital of South Ossetia Tskhinvali has been laid to waste, who is more likely to have done it; Russia, thus having murdered over a thousand of its civilians, and for what? Or Georgia, wanting to show its NATO credentials and to please Cheney and NATO by dragging Russia into a conflict that allows them to engage Russia?
Georgia has announced that it is about to withdraw 1000 of its troops from Iraq. Again, I suspect this was agreed in advance between Georgia and the USA/NATO.
With Georgia desperate for NATO membership, I believe that this Georgian military debacle received the stamp of approval from American, NATO and European leaders.
I see from the website of the British Embassy to Georgia that the British Ambassador to Georgia Denis Keefe was in South Ossetia on the 6th August, where he met with what the British Embassy describe as "the de facto President" of South Ossetia, thereby recognising some independence of South Ossetia. I have asked my MP to report to me exactly what Keefe was told regarding evidence he may or may not have been given regarding the plans by Georgia to attack South Ossetia, and who that evidence was relayed to.
