Increasing numbers are claiming they have been pinged and self-quarantined for days but have no idea why they were pinged.
But some callers into BBC Radio 5 live Your Call hosted by Nicky "anti-christ" Campbell gave a few clues.
The virus has given the government the opportunity to develop a system to obtain historical data of where people were and at what time. When someone takes a test and is found to be positive for the virus then the system works out who was close enough to that person and during a time period when they may have contracted the virus.
But it turns out that the system does not take into account physical boundaries between people. Two examples from this morning: a woman believes the system pinged her because it thinks she may have contracted the virus because it travelled through a wall dividing her house and a neighbours house; and a guy thinks the system pinged him because the virus travelled through a glass window.
Solutions?
One guy suggested daily tests.
Another suggested switching the phone app off except when moving in public spaces.
