Britain's foreign secretary, William Hague, labelled President Bashar al-Assad "delusional" on Sunday after the Syrian leader attacked the British government for its "shallow and immature rhetoric", which he said highlighted a "tradition of bullying and hegemony".
In an interview with the Sunday Times, many of Assad's remarks were aimed at the British government, which has taken the lead in Europe in pushing for the easing of the ban on arming the rebels. Assad accused the UK of resuming a "bullying" colonial role.
Hague responded by telling the BBC's Andrew Marr Show: "This will go down as one of the most delusional interviews that any national leader has given in modern times."

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has this to say about Syria.
Finding an end to the crisis in Syria
The government is working with international partners to bring about an end to violence and achieve a managed political transition. We have already committed over £50 million to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis and help the Syrian people prepare economically and politically for a new government.

Hague and Kerry have recently announced an increase in the 'nonlethal' assistance that the UK and USA are to give the Syrian al Qaeda rebs. Meanwhile Assad has offered peace talks if the rebs lay down their arms, and the rebs have dropped their demand that peace talks can occur only after Assad steps down.
This to me looks like there could be some kind of ceasefire, which could lead to peace.
But Hague and Kerry have given the rebs belief that we, the muggins taxpayer, will stand behind them as they cut the throats of and chop the heads off Syrian civilians.
The truth is that the 'crisis' in Syria was planned decades ago, and manufactured a few years ago, by a certain group of nasty, evil warmongers who did 9/11 to go on a bloody rampage to at least change the political landscape of The Middle East, if not to drag Russia and China into a nuclear war with the USA.
By interfering in this way Hague and Kerry are continuing the 'crisis', not ending it as the FCO policy statement suggests they should be doing.
Assad is correct. Syria is being invaded by NATO proxy terrorist scum.
