WYP provide details of their interactions with Savile; PR lunches, offers by Savile for the WYP to use his flat for events at Roundhay Park, donating £500 to a climbing wall used by WYP, etc.
But the most interesting section of the report is the intelligence that was held on Savile that was distributed across this Disunited Fascist Kingdom in various agencies and organisations but, for whatever reason, was not passed onto WYP. And when intel was passed onto WYP it was, for whatever reason, not entered on the systems of WYP.
The report lists the following intelligence:
• 1958 press report of a potential court case involving Savile;
• The 1964 MPS ledger held by the MPS Paedophile Unit;
• The anonymous letter received by MPS in 1998;
• A 2003 crime report held by the MPS regarding the complaint of a Savile victim;
• Information held by Surrey Police in relation to Duncroft School during 2007-2009 based on complaints made by Savile victims;
• Information provided to Operation Yewtree by former WYP officers and staff.
According to the WYP report:
- The 1964 information should have been passed onto WYP but wasn't
- The WYP did receive some intelligence on Savile from New Scotland Yard which should have been entered on their systems but wasn't.
- The investigation by the MPS in 2003 into an alleged sexual assault by Savile at a recording of Top of the Pops should have been sent to WYP
Media are focusing on the Friday Morning Club, and ignoring the claims that intel given to WYP was not entered onto their systems and not acted on, and that some officers are under investigation over this.
On BBC Radio 5 Live this morning Dan Davis, an author who is investigating Savile, was interviewed by Nicky Campbell. Davis claimed that a lighter with the inscription "From all your friends at the Vice Squad." was found among Savile's belongings and auctioned. Davis called the WYP report "A bit of a whitewash, a bit of a fudge."
