THIS TIME NEXT YEAR

This time next year I expect that the archives hiding what the much revered Winston Churchill knew about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour before it actually occured will be opened to the general public, including the USA.

For some strange reason (though I can suspect what that reason is), this knowledge has been classified as top sceret for 75 years. It is now 74 years. In a years time America should know whether or not Churchill deliberately withheld information from FDR about the Japanese fleet steaming towards Pearl Harbour...

Attempts at destroying this supposition have been made by trying to prove that US military intelligence had broken the Japanese codes. Yes, by the time of Pearl Harbour the USA had broken the diplomatic code but only about 10% of the military code. On the other hand, the British had 100% broken both codes, but refused to inform the USA of all the Japanese military communications. You can see this in the film Tora! Tora! Tora!, in which FDR, the CiC, is to be denied crucial military intelligence.

But all this diverts from the real question: if everything was just hunky dory then why would Great Britain withhold its military intelligence on Pearl Harbour for 75 years?

What were they expecting to happen that would mean that this information could not be withheld any longer?
