If you were expecting a detailed historical story then forget it.
The film should really be called Grey '47.
There is a very grey hue to every scene, though some scenes do show some very weak distant sunshine.
But would sunshine help?
Yes, it would.
Ireland is known as The Emerald Isle for a reason.
The point of the film is that the 1845 - 1847 famine provoked an emmigration of Irish to the USA. The film asks: should those who emigrated have stayed to fight and drive out the English instead?
But overall, 7/10, even though the script was an Irish mix of Spaghetti Western and The Magnificent Seven.
Stephen Rea plays a blinder.
The British occupation of Ireland has been one of brutality to produce cannon fodder for further brutality.
