Administration officials tried to wave off criticism by saying that the president would address gun issues in a separate speech. "Simply because something didn't get a half page in the State of the Union, or a paragraph or such, I think doesn't necessarily mean that it's not something that people will work on," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Wednesday, adding that he "wouldn't rule out that at some point the President talks about the issues surrounding gun violence."
"At some point"?
The lack of urgency is appalling. How many more tragedies must occur before the president is moved to act? How many more stricken families will be forced to sit through Washington dog-and-pony shows while those with the power to stem the violence do nothing?
