Winning the London mayoral election – as many expect – would 'not be enough'; Labour must gain up to 300 seats in English town halls, hold on to power in Wales and make inroads into the SNP's control of the Scottish Parliament. 'Jeremy has said we did badly in Scotland because we weren't Left-wing enough – we'll see if that is right,' he says, throwing down the gauntlet.
...Dugher, former spin doctor to Gordon Brown, is a reverse image of pro-Palestinian, shell-suited, Left-wing, national-anthem-mumbling, vegetarian, teetotal, pacifist Corbyn.
Robustly pro-Israel, ('most of us Labour Right-wingers are'), sharp suited ('my constituents expect me to be smart') and staunchly patriotic ('I belt out the national anthem'), he also sends himself up: 'I eat the occasional vegetable and have a sherry at Christmas.'
In fact Dugher is one of the few MPs who could drink Nigel Farage under the table. His idea of a night out is six pints of Guinness with his muckers and a curry rounded off by karaoke, where show-off Dugher hogs the limelight with pitch-perfect renditions of Sinatra classics.

Dugher gave the keynote speech at the We Believe in Israel conference last year, when he said this:
...the reason I support Israel – the reason I believe in Israel – is because, like America, Israel is more than just a country.
It’s an idea. An idea founded on a set of values and principles.
An idea that is worth fighting for.
...The founding fathers of the State of Israel built a country on a rock of great ideals: democracy; liberty; rights for all citizens; freedom of religion; opportunity; social justice; and equality.
...In 1948, talking about the creation of the State of Israel, President Truman said: “I believe it has a glorious future before it. As not just another sovereign nation, but as an embodiment of the great ideals of our civilisation.”
These ideals are still very much alive in Israel today.
