Liverpool : home of Liverpool FC, Bill Shankly, Kenny Dalgliesh, Ian Rush, Michael Owen.
Liverpool : home of The Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Teardrop Explodes and The Lahs.
Liverpool : home of Stan Boardman and Ken Dodd.
Liverpool : home of Brookside and Boys from the Blackstuff.
But also Liverpool : home of slavery.
Please visit The Slavery Museum on Albert Dock Liverpool and buy a booklet entitled Liverpool - The Capital of the Slave Trade.
Liverpool has that sham veneer represented by that above.
But what Liverpool did for slavery was incredible!!
For instance, this is what occured on Liverpool slave ships:
Some of the worst atrocities of the Middle Passage were committed on Liverpool ships. It was Captain Marshall on the Liverpool slaver "Black Joke" who flogged a baby to death for refusing food and then forced the child's mother to throw the corpse overboard. It was Captain Collingwood on the Liverpool slaver "Zong", owned by the prominent Liverpool banker William Gregson, who had 133 slaves thrown overboard in order to claim compensation from insurers for "loss of merchandise".
No doubt this is why some Scousers who believe they are intelligent escape from Liverpool, to escape from this bloody heritage.
Are Scousers aware of this heritage? If not, why not?
Or is it because they think they are Scouse Royalty and would rather help the same mentality that made Liverpool the Capital of the Slave Trade by fleeing to London and serving the slavers?
I commented on this last year: Liverpool is full of memories of The Beatles, but just one floor of a museum is dedicated to the slave trade that transformed Liverpool from a small town to one of the most powerful cities in the world.
And it wasn't just slaves they traded in. Prisoners too.
Some didn't give a fuck then.
Some don't give a fuck now.
