Venice was a capitalist state. The League of Cambrai convinced Venice that they were doomed so they moved north into central Europe and in particular to England. Along the way the Del Bancos settled in the German town of Warburg and changed their name to Warburg to hide thir Venetian roots. They eventually became the most powerful bankers in Germany, with their own bank MM Warburg, and even directed the Reichsbank and IG Farben when the Nazis were in power! The Warburgs helped the Nazis by organising pro-Nazi movements, and the Warburgs financed the Haavara in which the Zionists and the Nazis collaborated to transfer German Jews out of Germany into Palestine.
But it was around the time that capitalist Venice was relocating to England and northern Europe that capitalism began to develop big time. England and The Netherlands in particular who fought a series of wars for control of the seas. This capitalism was financed by fractional reserve banking. England went on to become the heart of the most powerful empire in the world, based on Venetian capitalism.
