Turkey is also a member of NATO, so can you imagine how NATO would treat having a border with Russia through Ukraine?
Anyway, there was a recent invasion of Syria by Turkey to allegedly visit a tomb. Islamic State did not interfere.
And when Islamic State held Kobane, Turkey didn't interfere.
A case of, you don't slit my throat and I won't slit yours.
The war in Syria is all about building a pipeline from the Pars gas field from Qatar through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Turkey, then onto Europe to threaten Russia's business with and thus influence over Europe.
Turkey didn't interfere when ISIS was obliterating Kobane on its borders, but went in with a small army to get a tomb & ISIS didnt interfere
